 Call for Book Reviews

The Journal of Economic Integration (JEI) invites book reviews to promote inclusion and diversity in perspectives. We are primarily interested in reviewing books on topics relevant to economic integration, especially in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The JEI is a peer-reviewed journal that seeks to open the door to further discussion of understanding and solutions for the current problems in the global economy from various perspectives on trade, finance, business, and labor, in addition to the issues related to the narrow concept of regional economic integration. We aim to have the book review section benefit the readers by providing a summary and insights into a book while saving them time, effort, and costs of acquiring and reading it.

Researchers and scholars in economics, development studies, international relations, and interdisciplinary social sciences are welcome to submit book reviews to the JEI. Call for book reviews related to a specific theme will be updated on this site, while general reviews are welcome at all times. If you want to review a book for the JEI, please submit your proposal through our online manuscript system: https://submit.e-jei.org. Proposals for book reviews will be considered on a rolling basis. We prefer proposals to review books that have been published within the last three years and appeal to an international readership.
Proposal Guidelines
  • Proposal for a book review is format-free.
  • When submitting to the online manuscript system:
    • Please select Book Review as the ‘Type of Manuscript’ in Step 1.
    • In Step 5, as your “suggested reviewer,” input the contact information of the JEI Editor-in-Chief as follows:
      a) First Name: Wonmun;
      b) Last Name: Shin;
      c) E-mail address: jei@sejong.ac.kr;
      d) Affiliation: Sejong University.
  • Upon approval of the proposal, the book review authors will be invited to submit their manuscripts via the JEI online manuscript system as major revisions of the initial proposal.
Note: Text generated from artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, or similar algorithmic tools cannot be used in the Book Review. AI-assisted technologies do not meet the JEI's criteria for authorship.
Book Review Guidelines
  • A book review should be 1,000-1,200 words long and in Times New Roman, double-spaced (or 1.5-spaced), with a font size of 12.
  • Reviews should be written while avoiding highly technical terms or jargon.
  • The tone of the review should be professional, and the review should be a valuable contribution to the literature in its own right.
  • The Book Review Editors reserve the right to edit for content and length.
  • The Book Review Editors will contact you if additional information or revisions are needed.
What we look for in the Book Reviews:
  • A concise and precise description of the book’s content: Relevant description of the topic, overall perspectives, primary themes, or purpose.
  • A critical assessment of the content: The book’s significance to scholarship by evaluating its strengths and weaknesses, a discussion of its contribution and relation to the existing literature and trends in the field, and its unique qualities (where appropriate).
  • Takeaways related to economic integration: The overarching ideas or thoughts and the new perspectives and expertise the author(s) bring.
The Book Review should include:
  • At the top of the review, please provide a summary of the book’s information: Author(s) or editor(s) first and last name(s), title, year of publication, name of publisher, total page numbers, ISBN, and price.
  • Please type your name, position, and institutional affiliation at the conclusion of your review, exactly as you wish it to be published. (Example: Hong Kildong, Associate Professor at Sejong University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.)
Please direct any further questions to the Editor-in-Chief, Wonmun Shin, at jei@sejong.ac.kr.
